Tai Niu! Successful Research and Development of “Zero Pollution” Environmental Protection Synthetic Leather in China

Huai’an Hyatt Technology Development Co., Ltd. quoted relevant reports: Recently, in Zhejiang Lishui Frith New Material Research Institute announced that “zero pollution” new environmental protection synthetic leather was formally developed successfully. “This new type of environmentally friendly synthetic leather, in the production process does not produce waste water and waste gas pollution, is the first domestic, international leader!” Dr. Sun Shoupeng, an expert on the National Thousand People Program, is an American Chinese.

Pointing to the new products of red-brown, gray-white and other colors, Dr. Sun said that these are new environmentally friendly synthetic leather products that can be produced in large quantities after small, medium and large-scale tests. Reporters touch the products with their hands, the surface is as smooth as skin, the texture is soft and delicate, compared with ordinary synthetic leather products, it appears to be a lot of high-end.

Sun Shoupeng introduced that he developed a new type of environmentally friendly synthetic leather, which is new in raw materials. He said that since the introduction of traditional synthetic leather products into China in the 1980s, the main resin raw materials used in leather making are organic solvent-based.

Waste water and waste gas containing DMF (dimethylformamide) and organic solvents will be produced in the production process, which not only pollutes the environment, but also affects the health of workshop workers and consumers. He developed a new type of environmentally friendly synthetic leather, abandoning organic solvent-based raw materials containing DMF, using new environmentally friendly chemical raw materials, in the production process does not produce DMF wastewater, waste gas, finished products do not contain harmful substances, can be used as furniture, shoes and hats, clothing raw materials, but also directly contact with the skin.

Sun Shoupeng, 63, a native of Shandong Province, went abroad to study in the late 1980s. He studied under Professor k.c.frisch, the father of international polyurethane, and obtained a doctor’s degree in chemistry in the United States. He has been engaged in chemical research in Detroit University for more than 10 years and has become an international top expert in related fields. After returning home, he won the honor of the 10th batch of experts in the National Thousand Persons Program in 2012.

As an important production base of synthetic leather industry in China, Lishui has been troubled by waste water and waste gas treatment in recent years. Dr. Sun Shoupeng was invited to help solve the problems of synthetic leather pollution and industrial transformation and upgrading. In June 2014, through the introduction of high-level talents and the co-construction of research institutes with local enterprises, he led the team to formally settle down in Lishui Development Zone and plunged into the R&D test of new synthetic leather.

Compared with the water-based synthetic leather products developed by the previous industry, Dr. Sun’s new environmentally friendly synthetic leather has advantages in cost, performance and production process, breaking the international monopoly. In addition to its superior performance, the cost of the new synthetic leather products is only equal to that of the medium and high-end oil-based synthetic leather, and the ordinary oil-based synthetic leather production line can produce this new product with a little improvement.

“If Lishui synthetic leather industry is completely renewed and replaced to produce new environmental protection leather, the problem of waste gas treatment of synthetic leather wastewater, which has plagued the development zone for many years, will be solved.” Sun Shoupeng confidently said that just as digital photography technology replaces film photography technology, new environmentally friendly synthetic leather manufacturing technology will certainly replace traditional leather making technology.
