Environmental performance of water-based PU leather

The water-based PU leather processing uses a water-based polyurethane resin instead of a solvent-based resin as a raw material, and a leather product is obtained through a leather production line.

Water-based resin does not contain toxic organic chemical solvents. Water vapor is emitted from the production process. Water is a human being, an indispensable thing in nature. When water vapor is returned to nature, it is completely environmentally friendly.

Therefore, the production of water-based polyurethane synthetic leather is completely harmless to the human body and the environment, greatly reducing the cost of environmental pollution treatment.

However, the traditional oily synthetic leather is produced with a large amount of harmful substances such as DMF. The annual demand for solvent-based PU resin for synthetic leather is about 2 million tons/year, of which 70% is the solvent content of the resin; the dilution material (organic solvent) is 1:1. The calculation requires 2 million tons, and the industry needs a total of 3.4 million tons of solvent. Each 10,000 meters consumes 10 tons of coal, which is equivalent to 1 ton of coal consumed by one piece of leather. The national clean production technical standard stipulates that 0.5 tons of coal is consumed in 1 ton of leather. Solvent recovery accounts for 40% of total energy consumption, requires high-temperature drying and foaming, and disperses heat supply. Therefore, the total series of problems seriously impressed social development.

In addition, there is no toxic residue in the finished water-based leather produced by the water-based resin, which can fully meet the highest environmental protection requirements of synthetic leather.

In terms of physical properties, a series of multifunctional groups such as carbamate thiol, carbamic acid thiol, carbyl thiol, ether group, ketone group and benzene ring are present in the aqueous polyurethane polymer chain, so that the water-based resin has water resistance. Properties, solvent resistance, abrasion resistance, scratch resistance, wrinkle resistance, moisture permeability, breathability, and the same feel as leather.
